5th Australian Conference on Lutheran Education (ACLE5)
The 5th Australian Conference on Lutheran Education officially commenced in Adelaide, Australia, on July 5th. The opening worship meaningfully completed the Walk My Way: Stepping out to bring Love to Life initiative (in partnership with Australian Lutheran World Service) that began the day before as hundreds of volunteers followed the pioneer trail of the Prussian refugee women who cared for their families and community by selling goods in the city of Adelaide, and served the church by carrying bricks 26km on the trek back from the city to build their first church building in Hahndorf. Walk My Way raised more than AUD$130,000 to support 5,000 refugee children to attend school.
The ACLE5 theme was People, Planet, Purpose: Reformation starts with us! 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. This was a time of significant change in the history of the world and the church. ACLE5 explored the theme of reformation and the transformation through People (Edu-reformation), Planet (Eco-reformation), and Purpose (Ego-reformation). More than 1,000 educators gathered in Adelaide to participate in presentations and conversation around this theme. In addition to the Australian educators, participants joined from Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Malaysia, the United States, and Hong Kong.
Let’s congratulate our Australian ALEA members for delivering an excellent conference, supporting the ministry of Christ-centered educational communities in Asia!
