A Child’s Garden of Bible Stories Curriculum
An excellent curriculum for teaching the Bible has been developed by the Lutheran Heritage Foundation. The curriculum includes detailed plans for teaching Bible stories to children of different ages and can be used for Sunday school classes, Bible classes in Lutheran schools, family Bible studies and more. The Lutheran Heritage Foundation is making this valuable teaching tool available free of charge to all Lutheran churches and schools throughout Asia.
Based on the 60 Bible stories in the book, A Child’s Garden of Bible Stories, each lesson is filled with suggestions and information to help the teachers present interesting, meaningful lessons. Included in every lesson plan are ideas about teaching methods, how to make practical instructional materials, sample activities and songs that can be used to enhance the teaching and to make the learning more enjoyable.
All lesson plans provide the central truth of the story, the lesson objectives, a Bible memory verse and background information about the story that teachers can use to explain the story in more detail. Teachers are provided step-by-step instructions for presenting the lessons, including questions to ask and ways to apply the story to the lives of the children.
Although focused primarily on younger learners, the design of the curriculum for A Child’s Garden of Bible Stories makes it possible to use this resource as a sequential framework for teaching the Bible in grades 1-6 in a Lutheran school or for organizing a comprehensive Sunday School program. Of course, the teachers also can choose to teach the lessons in any order they prefer.
Currently the curriculum is available only in English, but A Child’s Garden of Bible Stories has been translated into a number of Asian languages. Additional translations are planned.
The Asia Lutheran Education Association wants this curriculum to be a blessing to many Lutheran schools and churches in Asia. Some free workshops to study the curriculum in detail and to apply it to specific situations are being planned.
