Intentional Partnering through Educational Travel: HKIS and IELC

For eight years, High School students from Hong Kong International School have taken weeklong, service trips to interact with students from several schools of the India Evangelical Lutheran Church. The partnership has generated an empowerment curriculum, written by students, as well as related student-led activities. About Marty…
Dr. Marty Schmidt has taught for more than twenty years in the Humanities Department of Hong Kong International School. He has developed several courses which incorporate service learning into humanities curricula.  In 2009 he received an Ed.D. from the University of Western Australia for his dissertation, “Teaching for Social Conscience in Hong Kong Schools.”
