HKIS and Sharon Lutheran School Celebrate Cultural Exchange
On February 18 Marty Schmidt’s Humanities I in Action class from HKIS visited Sharon Lutheran School in Kowloon for a cultural exchange afternoon. Marty’s students visited three different Primary 6 English classes. HKIS students shared traditional dress and customs from their international cultural background, while the local students presented about Chinese traditional clothing. Then the students played some games and talked to each other in small groups.
During the second half of the visit, HKIS students visited homes of local students within walking distance of the school. The local students appreciated meeting international students from many different cultures, while HKIS students gained an experience with families in a local setting in Hong Kong, which fits well with their study of globalization and the challenges faced by societies to provide for citizens at all levels of society. This is the second year that Sharon School and HKIS have partnered in this school-to-school exchange.
The next visit between the two schools will be in on March 22 when Sharon Lutheran students will visit HKIS’s World Fair, a one-day carnival held annually at the school.
